National LambdaRail

National LambdaRail (NLR) is a major initiative of U.S. research universities and private sector technology companies to provide a national scale infrastructure for research and experimentation in networking technologies and applications. NLR is a membership-based organization with 15 Members and several Associates that include over 150 universities, research institutions and other organizations. Advanced Internet Development (UCAID)

The Abilene Network is an Internet2 high-performance backbone network that enables the development of advanced Internet applications and the deployment of leading-edge network services to Internet2 universities and research labs across the country. The network has become the most advanced native IP backbone network available to universities participating in Internet2.

The Abilene Network supports the development of applications such as virtual laboratories, digital libraries, distance education and tele-immersion, as well as the advanced networking capabilities that are the focus of Internet2. Internet2 is a consortium being led by 207 universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies, accelerating the creation of tomorrow's Internet. Internet2 is recreating the partnership among academia, industry and government that fostered today’s Internet in its infancy. The primary goals of Internet2 are to:

Southern Crossroads, SoX is a cooperative initiative by the members of the Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA). SoX was designed to facilitate access to current and future highly integrated, digital communications services for education, research, and economic development within the region and across United States.

(SURA)

The Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA) is a consortium of over sixty universities across the US. Established in 1980 as a nonstock, nonprofit corporation, SURA seeks to foster collaboration among its member institutions in science and engineering and to encourage new ideas for SURA collaborative programs that meet SURA criteria for support. SURA operates the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab http://www.jlab.org/) on behalf of the US Department of Energy http://www.doe.gov/ and promotes initiatives in nuclear physics, information technologies, and coastal research.
