Mission/Vision Statement
MISSION
Florida LambdaRail’s mission is to provide a cost effective, ultra-high speed, inter-connected, broadband service delivery network that enables Florida’s higher education institutions and partners to collaborate, connect, utilize and develop new innovative broadband applications and services in support of their scientiic research, education, and 21st century economy initiatives.
VISION
“By 2020, Florida LambdaRail through its innovative partnerships and strategic alliances with higher education and research institutions as well as federal, state, and local government partners is the premier, independently owned and operated Regional Optical Network (RON) in the Southeastern United States and the Americas.
Organizationally, FLR has grown to 14 Partner Institutions (Global Campuses) and 67 Afiliate Members that collectively enable and support their research, education and 21st century economy initiatives as well as National Science Foundation programs; National Broadband Plan objectives; Internet2, Energy Science Net, United States Uniied Community Anchor Network (US UCAN), U.S. IGNITE initiatives.
FLR’s optical system, capable of transporting 40 400Gbps (16 terabit) waves, continues to be a key research, education and 21st century innovation enabler. FLR’s “Science DMZ” enables and supports exchange of research (big data) and information on a regional, national and global basis.
Florida LambdaRail is headquartered in Florida’s capital, Tallahassee, with a professional staff of 15 employees and an annual budget of $6.4 million dollars.”
