SCRIPPS FLORIDA
“As one of the world’s
largest independent, not-
for-proit organizations,
The Scripps Research
Institute (TSRI) depends on high-speed data connectivity to support and advance our core research and business goals. FLR has been
a great partner in this effort, enabling not only
our communications between the Florida and California campuses of the institute, but to research colleagues at peer institutions in Florida, as well. FLR and its partner networks provide TSRI a dedicated, high speed link between our campuses that enable
PALM BEACH COUNTY
“In 2008, the Board of County
Commissioners approved an agreement
for Palm Beach County to connect to
the Florida LambdaRail. This was one
of the earliest such service agreements
between the FLR and a county government,
and numerous beneits have resulted from our collaboration. FLR provides the County with
faster broadband services for Internet access and reduces our annual operating costs by $29,000 per year. Another beneit from our FLR connection is access to the Northwest Regional Data
Center (NWRDC), a major disaster recovery site adjacent to the Florida State University campus
in Tallahassee.
Perhaps the greatest advantage gained from our agreement with the FLR is the designation of Palm Beach County as an aggregator of FLR
the high-speed transfer of research data to accelerate our science, facilitate
a learning environment
that removes distance as a barrier to scientiic education, and supports several key administrative and technical services, including disaster recovery and load sharing. Our nearly 3,000 faculty and staff depend heavily on this connectivity as they work towards their next discoveries.”

services with rights to resell connectivity to other public sector agencies. As a reseller
of FLR network services, the County’s
IT Department (Information Systems Services) has become an Internet Service
Provider (ISP) for numerous other units
of local government, education, and non-proit organizations in Palm Beach County. Most of the larger cities in Palm Beach County as well as important non-proit organizations such as the Scripps Research Institute and the Max Planck Florida Institute are interconnected to the FLR via the County network. These shared service agreements provide robust Internet service and reduce costs for all participating agencies. Our FLR agreement is the “magnet” that attracts these partners to join the County network.”
